Assignment 4
Actually, when I am honest I did not really have any expectations before I came here. I am more the typ of person, who lives day by day and then sees what comes up. I think this is one of the reasons why I didn?t inform myself a lot about Barcelona and its people. I just wanted to jump ?into the cold water?. The only thing I knew (or hoped) before I came here was, that it will be a great experience. I was thinking very positive about this challenge and luckily I am still very positive. Even tough it?s a pitty that I did not improve my spanish that much.
I think the German culture is in some points really different to the Catalan culture. We are not that proud of our own culture as the Catalan people are. That?s why German people like to travel, get to know other cultures, try to learn foreign languages etc. We ?import? quite a lot, whereas the Catalan people try very hard not to get away from their traditions. Sometimes I experienced that Catalan people were giving me strange looks, just because I could not understand them. I think we are more open and interested. When I was asked to tell something about typical german things, it was kind of hard to say something straight away. But if I look at the folklore, the food, the music and other aspects of the Catalan culture- I realize that they really have their own habbits and thats impressive!!
