Assignment 2
During my stay here in Barcelona I had the chance to talk to a variety of different people (catalan and non-catalan people). This helped me to gain a better understanding of the still existing differences between catalan and spanish people. Before I came here, I wasn’t aware of these differences and that’s why I was quite surprised that they are still such a big issue. I think everyone of us knows already that until the death of Franco in 1975, the flag, language and Catalan identity were illegal. Due to the fact that Spain was conquering and dominating the Catalan people for hundreds of years, they don’t want to be spanish and they don’t feel spanish aswell. They are very proud of their own culture and their unique traditions. The comments from non catalan people on the webblog were positive, because there are many people who are not aware of the differences. They think it’s a good way to provide everyone who is interested with this necessary information in order to gurantuee a better understanding for eachother.
