Assignment 2; The differences between Catalunia and the rest of Spain
A difference between the inhabitants of Catalunya and those of the South of Spain is that the people in Catalunya are colder. But I think this difference appears in almost every european country. There is also a big difference in the people in the north of holland and the south, and in France it is the same. People in Catalunya are also hard workers, when you compare it to the south. The manana thing is here not as obvious as in other parts of spain.

Furthermore the Catalunians are very nationalistic. Many Catalunians want Catalunia to be independent. At first I found it a bit strange, but then I started to ask people if they thought Catalunya should be independent or not. I found out that if you ask this question to people, they just don’t stop talking about the subject. But it was very interesting, and now I can understand it a bit better.

Someone told me that his grandparents were killed during the Franco period and that speaking Catalan was a way of showing that you were anti-Franco. Another reason why they want Catalunya to be independent is that Catalunya has a better economy then other parts of spain, and they feel like they are giving their money to the rest of spain.

I have read some statements of political parties and I found out that almost every party wanted more independency for Catalunia. Another difference is that the Catalunian people keep their culture very alive. There are fiestas that are typical Catalan, like for example La Merce.
