Assignment 2.
Before I came to Barcelona I had no idea what Catalan people were like and even after living here for a while I still can´t really tell any major differences between the Catalan and Spanish people.
I interviewed three students from my English Workshops class and these are the comments that they gave me.
They said that the Spanish have a lot more opinions about the differences of the two than they do. To me they seemed too polite to say anything really negative about the Spanish people. They mentioned that the Spanish see people from Catalonia as more hard-working and less willing to spend their money. They (the Spanish) also believe that Catalan people are less friendly and not as out-going as the Spanish.
I think that Catalan people are definately more reserved, they keep themselves to themsleves but after having lessons with them I can tell that they are definately not unfriendly, quite the opposite. Because of this I believe that Catalan people are less likely to talk to strangers in the street.
For the students I interviewed they thought that with Spanish people´s behaviour depended what region of Spain they came from. They think that people from Pais Vasco were more rude while people from Andalusia and Canarias were more friendly and outgoing but also lazy and loud.
I think one of the main differences is that Catalonia has its own Government and flag, the people are also very patriotic and proud of being from Catalonia.
