Assignment 3/Cultural event
The only bigger cultural event I have taken part so far in is La Merced. The most different experience during the festivals were the human towers (castellers) for which I went to see with my friends. The Plaza Jaume was full of people and first we could not see anything...but then people started to climb higher and higher on the others just keeping their balance grabbed onto clothes and holding hands. It was really a heartstopping view when the smallest child finally climbed to the top.
In Finland only towers done in middle of a crowded place would not be even possible, the security control is so strict that it would be illegal to organize that kind of festivals. In my opinion it is really great that catalans have managed to save castellers as part of their unique culture.
