Assignment 3
Writing about a cultural experience... the first thing which comes up in my mind is the typical catalan folkdance, Sardana. Although we´ve talked about it in class, I do want to mention it again.
I saw the Sardana during the Merce festival. It was nice to see all the people gathering to do this traditional dance. We noticed that the younger people even wore special shoes ( a sort of dance shoes). All the people were dancing in a circle, holding each others hands, while a band played live music (cobla).
The dance symbolises unity and equality. Old and young people all danced together, which was very nice. No one was left out and anyone could join in.
Although I can imagine that it might look boring, I liked to see this typical dance. It was strange though that this ´boring´ dance was known by so many people.
For those of you who have missed the dance, you can still see it every sunday in front of the cathedral around 14.00 and at Placa St Jaume around 19.00
Wish you all a nice day without rain hopefully,
Sonja
