La Mercè Festival
Friday 19th is when the festival begins. The programme can be seen at http://www.bcn.es/merce/.
Highlights on Friday include:
22.00 Fire dragons and fire-beasts will be parading around various streets of the Barrio Gotico.
The BAM festival (Pop/Indie/dance), held at the Estacio de França (you have to buy a ticket) begins at 22.30 (highlight is Tod Terry) and the critically popular Asturian indie rock star (well worth seeing) Nacho Vegas.
Also music-wise, the popular flamenco fusion group 'Ojos de Brujo' (with hip hop influences) is playing for free at Plaza Catalunya at 22.30.
Anyone who would like to see some more traditional authentic flamenco has the opportunity on Friday night at 21.00 as the A-Z of Flamenco (part of the official Mercè feastival) kicks off with a concert by Tabarka/Los Delinquentes/Tomasito
